Hi,

I am using Loctite Hysol E-20HP to bond a small aluminum piece to an organic-based substrate (optical application). My intent is to very precisely locate the aluminium part: basically I hold the part in place using a jig, after lining it up optically, while the epoxy cures.

My question is whether or not the epoxy develops some kind of internal stress between the aluminum and the substrate which could misalign the part during curing.

Thanks!

There will be about 2% volume shrinkage in the epoxy during cure but after it gels. If you have a thin and uniform bondline thickness You will not likely see any misalignment. But, that all depends on your required tolerances.
