Hey Guys,

So just wondering about this, if I hvae epoxy anchors into CMU and grout around them but they are a few feet away from a bond beam, does this still work? DOes the load distribute as needed in the wall if there's nothing below the grouted core? I guess I'm not 100% sure how gravity load travels in a CMU wall.

First is the failure prism. That is what the anchorage checks and masonry breakout strength is telling us. Where does it go next? Either up or down, where is closest rebar, and where is the stiffest and closest load path? After the anchorage calculations, the load is basically a point load on the greater member you are analyzing.

There will be a vertical or horizontal strip of the wall that one could use to resist this point load plus any other loading that is applicable.

Is the wall grouted solid or not? If you are depending on anchoring only to a face shell, that doesn't give you a dependable connection.
