What is the required clearance from and Column face to the bolt center-line for a 3/4" bolt?
Referring to Table 7-16 of AISC 360-05 it appears the socket size is 2-1/4" and the minimum dimension would be 1-1/4". Right?

I dont have my AISC manual but i use the tabke you are refering to quite often... If it is the table i am thinking of it has c1, c2 and c3... Just find bolt diameter and corresponding socket dismeter. Divide socket diameter by two- this distance must be less than dist from column face to bolt centerline

Also consider using an open face wrench and using a socket on the bottom if you are having clearance issues.. If that is applicable for your situation

RFreund -- I'd read that table the same way you have. You might also have to consider the C3 distance if you have a radius nearby.

Having worked on many cars, I find the table very generous.

When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.
