Engraving a picture on a machined part

How do you take a 2D sketch, like an imported dxf picture or dxf logo, and engrave it onto a part? The part will then be read by mastercam for machining on a mill. I know how to extrude a cut to a surface using a closed contour sketch, but what if the dxf picture is made with many lines, not closed contours. Mastercam understands the 2d dxf, but how do I get a 2d dxf picture to be a part of my solidworks model which then can be imported into mastercam for applying toolpaths?

As far as I know, you'll first have to fix the sketch so it's contours are closed.
What exactly is this?
A picture or a logo?

I am assuming that your 2D dxf contains many open contours. You can only extrude a single open contour to create a cut feature, so you probably don't want to it that way. Why don't you just leave the dxf entities in a sketch, create a drawing, show the sketch and save out as dxf? The sketch entities get saved and can be used in MasterCAM and the sketch can be shown in the drawing.

I want to project the dxf picture onto a domed surface. Can I get mastercam to recognize the domed surface with the sketch projected onto it by using a dxf file?
