For the last 10-years I have worked for engineering companies that subscribe to industry standards via IHS. Call 800-447-3352 or +1-303-397-2295. This may access customer service. I am sure that they can provide sales information too.

I occassionally work on projects that use PIP standards and data sheets. Perhaps due to their location, PIP appears to target the oil, gas and petrochemical engineering marketplace. The specification data sheets are clumsy. PIP is included on our IHS subscription.

John,

Unfortunately, unlike the ligh-commercial building projects, no one set of "engineering standards" exists for the process chemical industry.

Unlike the "design-build-inspect-maintain" standards used for ummmm.....say a new warehouse construction, nothing like this exists for a petrochemical refinery or a pulverized coal power plant.

This is why large companies like Foster-Wheeler, Shaw Bechtel and Fluor exist. They have the people, the experience and the knowledge necessary to build a large project involving large expensive, custom made equipment.

The PIP standards are useful, but are somewhat limited in application (i.e. good for specification of a small flat bottomed tank, bad for specification of a steam surface condenser...)

Again.....my opinion only

Yes EPC's, Equipment suppliers and End users do make a small contribution to standards groups such as PIP and the ISA. But the reality is that they do not really hand over the gold - their own standards and examples, or if they do, they so neutralise it as to make it almost worthless.
They have a great concern about retaining their Intellectual Property. Often to the extent of not even sharing that which is completely common (99%) from the real Intellectual Property (1%), as they have no time to filter it out.

You cannot get these Standard out of the box. But there are resources, such as PIP and the IEC Standards that are helpful. And they are in the end Your Standards so you will have to work on them.

Norsok is one that I would suggest checking. They have some good standards you might adapt, you have to pay for them.
