In columns, if the bar force due to factored loads is tensile, then can we still use End-Bearing Splices?

I am referring to Section 10.7.5.3 of ACI 318-14.

Thank you.

No. Read 10.7.5.3.1. In summary, if compressive loads in bars, end bearing splices shall be permitted provided you follow the limitations noted.

Read 10.7.5.2.2. In summary, if tension loads in bars, you need tension lap splices.

Why you would ever want to consider end bearing splices is beyond me, the practicalities of end bearing the bars on site is beyond impossible given the general ability of the average reinforcement fixer. Notwithstanding that it doesn't take a lot of moment to put the bars in lightly loaded columns in tension.
