Does anyone have a North American equivalent for EN30B alloy steel?

I don't know of an exact equivalent, but 4340 heat-treat is pretty close. I think EN30B has a slightly superior impact resistance, but most all of the other properties are the same. It's aircraft quality and usually available in round rods up to 12" dia. or so.

waterbottle,

As Don already mentioned, 4340 (SAE J404, SAE AMS 6409, etc.) is similar, but not an exact equivalent. It is quite likely that 4340 would be capable of meeting the performance requirements with the correct processing. I suggest you review your application with some steel vendors and heat treaters.

Thanks for all the info.
I have to put a big drill through this stuff.
I think 4340 is the closest AISI designation but it does have a higher Cr and Ni content than that.

Thanks again.
