Is the 17025 standard a major consideration outside the pharma/medcial device enviroment?

Yes, the aerospace and automotive industries require that labs be certified to some type of standard, which usually refers to ISO 17025. This is the worldwide standard for laboratory certification.

Yes CE marking does apply to medical device equipment if being puton the market in the EU.
