I am working on a reinforced concrete building that is appox. 100'x 200'. The main beams are 100"x16" deep and run the short direction at 24'-6" centers. In the long direction there are 24"x16" beams at the edges. The detailer has specified 4"x6" LLH embedment angles on both sides of the 24" wide beams at 4' on center. This means that in a couple locations of the 100" wide beams there is a 4" portion of the angle creating a discontinuity in the main load carrying concrete beam. The general contractor isn't concerned. But I am. I believe the detailer should have chosen a flat plate in those areas (on the inside of the 24" beam). Am I overly concerned about this discontinuity or is it a valid concern ?
