I have read a few threads that have discussed research findings from the Ohio Highway Department that do not require end bearing caps to be welded onto H-piles. Where would someone be able to find this research and has anyone had any issues with scraping the end bearing cap plates on H-piles?

The current problem I am analyzing has 100 ton H-piles and about a 3'-0" concrete cap.

Thanks for the help.

tcotter>> You might have already referred to thread507-14634. The posts by dlew and austin do make
a reference to research by State of Ohio Dept of Highways and dated 1947. I have not seen that report.
On many of our projects, we have used 100 Ton H piles, 6" embedment into pile cap and without any
plate on top of the piles.

@tcotter>> Per thread507-213359, and post by lkjh345, CRSI Handbook recommends that with 6" pile embedment,
cover plates for bearing are not required.
