I am looking for an Idea as to how to possibly reduce or eliminate a whirlpool in a cylindrical tank that currently is driaining too slow due to this problem. (in the 700-1000 gallon batch tank size range)
Use a vortex breaker, which is simply baffles at the bottom of the tank, to stop circular flow. Or change inlet nozzles if they are causing circular flow.
Thank You I was having trouble with it i had a similiar design in mind but could not get the name or any specs. you would not believe how troubling it is to look for "ways to stop a whirlpool" or "stopping a vortex" etc. Thank You. The previous one that was tested did not sit in the drain as one i came across did. it was a simple X that got tossed around.
You can also use a floating vortex breaker if it is practical to have something floating on the surface of your tank. I have seen plywood layed on the top of the surface and attached to the side of the tank to keep it from spinning.
This can be the easiest fix if you can pull it off.
