It seems that there are a number of good solutions out there for PCB package design. Need SS and transient thermal and linear stress and vibration. Any opinions on their relative performance?

Options seem to be for the non-daily user,

Ansys
Cosmos
Algor
TAS ??

Thanks.

Don't forget ABAQUS, it's solver is also very effective at linear problems and will allow you to do the fully coupled thermal stress problem.

Also, many packages do not allow you to pre-load a structure prior to extracting vibrations. This pre-load may be in the form of thermal stress due to temperature, material variation with temperature, solder cracking, contact, etc.

I suspect ANSYS can do this as well, but I've done this with ABAQUS before.

With their easy to use GUI you can script automated tasks such as BGA's.

Yea, you can defintely do pre-load situations with ANSYS pretty easily.
