Electrically insulated hoist hook.

I have an application for a hoist with an electrically insulated hook. This has been done several times, with a typical assembly shown in the layout. The insulating material is Garolite, and I've included a list which includes electrical properties.

On this particular application I need to provide a value of electrical protection to the customer, the calculations for which I am totally unfamiliar. Is there a way to achieve this goal?

Is it not the breakdown differential voltage provided by some certain thickness of your "Garolite" material?

Per your drawing, the breakdown voltage tells you what it can tolerate, TYPICALLY, which means it could be lower, or higher, in actual usage. I couldn't find the submethod (D), so don't know what that means.

Note also, this drawing value applies to a NEW hook, wear, dirt, moisture/humidity, abuse, all can contribute to a lower net value. Note that garolite is fiberglass epoxy, so not a structural material, which means overloading/crushing can result property changes.

You need to periodically check the insulation resistance across Garolite washer while on load. On reduction of insulation resistance the washer set needs to be changed.

Garolite has very good material specifications. You should be able to calculate the electrical insulation.

BUT! This is going to vary widely with any lubricant applied so your electrical specification is going to require a lubricant specification.
