I figured the best place to electrical advise would be to ask the experts!

I am currently designing a vacuum pump package suitable for an hazardous area. All of the electrical components within the system are for the explosion proof environment. Normally it would be the end-users responsibility for all wiring to controls and switches. However, in this instance, I am to provide all inter connecting wiring. My first thought is to use rigid steel conduit. However, I would like some suggestions, comments and access to some useful information. Can somone direct me to the appropriate standard or specifications that would assist with proper wiring of the system.

Thanks!

Dear pumpmaster,

Before we start anything, it is important to know the zone in which u r operating. (ex. zone 0, zone 1 or zone 2.

There are specific NEMA standards as petaining to a paricular zone. All control equipment (switches, PB's, motor starters etc. must comply with this standard.)

Hello pumpmaster.

All motor wiring will have to comply with the requirements of the CEC in Canada, or NEC in the USA.The Zones,as the previous post mentioned, will determine the kind of wiring required for the particular area.
Hard to get around it.

I want to thank Disti and GusD for their quick response. The hazardous location that I am speaking of is Class 1, Div 1, Zones 0&1.

Class 1 Div 1 will require rigid to be sealed.
much easer to use teck cable with appropiate connectors.
MI (mineral insulated) cable also does a neet job.
