We have just rewound a eight pole motor. The motor is drawing 10amps .It is 5hp 420v delta connected. Now this is above full load. The windings seem to be fine. The original windings had 28 turns per coil. Now we are rewinding it again with 31 turns per coil. What would be the amps now? It has 36 slots and the windingsare two coils per slot. The grouping is -121212.What could have gone wrong?

I'm not so certain your Amperage is going to change much. It might drop a little. It sounds more like the load is too much for the motor. What was the original wind on this motor? Was it connected to the current load? What was it's amperage then?

If it is broken, fix it. If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Are you sure the original winding was delta connected??
36 slots/2 coils per slot/8 poles is a winding with unequal coil groupings. You should have 4 groups of 2 coils & 4 groups of 1 coil per phase (24 groups in all). The grouping should be as you mention. Did you run a polarity test after rewinding it the first time around? Is the coil pitch correct? What are the nameplate amps?
