1-I've heard people say that when you do a second-order analysis on a moment frame, you can use a K-factor of
1.0 for the column design. I'm trying to find an explanation of this concept, and I am trying to find
out whether the idea of using K=1 when you do a second-order analysis is correct or not so can any one help?

2-other thing how i can make etabs calculate effective length factor automatically ??

best regards

This is true, if you perform a second order analysis, then the effect of the buckling is considered and does not need to be applied again in the design.
Generally, second order effects should be considered in the analysis (using second order analysis) or in the design (assuming the corresponding buckling factors).

Analysis and Design of arbitrary cross sections
Reinforcement design to all major codes
