I have a SUS 316L plate which is a tank cover. In the design the material of the braces is SUS 316L and the problem is that the only available is SUS 304.
The tank is used as a leaching tanks. However the braces will not contact the liquid inside the tank. Is it okay to use 304 instead of 316L? It will be attached by welding.
Please see attached photo for reference.

Dear doomster,

First of all, accept this as a deviation. Raise an NCR and ask the vendor to come up for an alternative solution.

You can't imagine how a small and simple deviation like the one you have mentioned can cause havoc at a much later date leading to unexpected corrosion, process and man-hour losses.

Regards.
