The TL across a concentric-tube resonator is dependent on packing density of wool in the outer can. But is it also dependent on excitation level? In other words, does the wool become acoutically transparent at very low levels and very acoustically "dense" at high levels. I have simulations to suggest this is true but only measurements at varying densities, not levels.

Hmm, non linear acoustics.

I suppose you could make up some handwaving explanation based on the average fibre length and the displacement of the plane wave. Never heard of it.

You could try the architectural boys at alt.sci.physics.acoustics ... if you get the home stereo clowns you'll have a million theories.

Actually you might want to google around for Art Ludwig, who is a very cluey bloke on room acoustics, and Linkwitz, who is a loudspeaker guy who makes a lot of sense to me.

Cheers
