Hello,
I am an EE (PE) and I just got a new job which requires that I design controls and power distribution for wastewater treatment plants. I'm looking for a text(s) which will give me a grand overview of how the system works. I'd like to see a P&ID, typical equipment, flow calculations, odor control, etc. Does anyone have a good textbook that I can use as a guide/manual?

thanks,
EE

Everyone I know in the biz has a copy of "Wastewater Engineering: Treatment and Reuse" by George Tchobanoglous. Available on Amazon.

Try your Degremont representative and see if they will provide that comapnies process books to you. They used to be free for good customers. Ask for older editions as they contained better technical information ie before the lawyers had them sanitised of anything that could encumber them with risk.

The Water Environment and AWWA publish a number of practices.

The US Army website has some good articles.

I agree with 777JQX and Stanier. The US marines have a great reference and most of which is down to earth no nonsense information.

If you live in a metric country (like me) got the 4th ed of Wastewater Treatment, reuse, and disposal by George T or if you live in an imperial country (like USA) go for the 3ed edition as its all in feet and gallons per day.

For the fastest results Google it! Google Books have a range of text books to look through while not complete they will give you a good idea. Start at the smaller books (less than 500 pages) as the big ones get in depth fast. Look for ones with a ‘field guide’ or ‘introduction to…’

Andy Shilton a New Zealand professor has some good e-books about wastewater especially lagoon plants. For water treatment my favourite is ‘Introduction to Potable water treatment processes’ by SA Parsons and BJ Jefferson.

Thanks everybody. Of course I already googled it, but I have no way of determining which books are valuable and which are garbage. I appreciate the help.

So, is this "Wastewater Engineering: Treatment and Reuse" by George Tchobanoglous a pretty good book. It's pricey and I want to make sure it's a good resource. I'm sure it cover chemistry and fluid engineering, but does it cover anything about electrical and controls?

Wastewater Engineering is considered to be the "bible" of wastewater. However, you will not find details on equipment or P & ID's in the book.

You can have your local library obtain a copy through Worldcat if you want to preview the book before you buy it. Most libraries have an inter library loan process so you can obtain the book from a university.

Check out worldcat:

You can also buy a used book through bookfinder.com.

That's what I'm looking for, the bible. Thank you.
