I'm looking at top mounting a balustrade into an existing 200mm high masonry wall around my deck
This is outside the manufacturer's recommendations and they're not being very helpful, so I'm probably going off piste to design my own solution
It's a pretty darn windy area so I actually want to do this correctly, would you believe it
The manufacturer's base fixing is a 95mm square plate with 4/ 8mm fixings 75mm apart in a square pattern
Putting that onto a 190mm block wall and allowing for a ~35mm thick wall gives only ~20mm ish of actual concrete edge distance
Unfortunately this doesn't calc out unless I charitably assume a low concrete strength (12MPa for masonry) with edge distance of ~55mm to the outside of the block
I'm a bit dubious of this approach so I thought I would appeal to the experts - anyone tried a similar solution?
I can't imagine this is the first time someone has tried to top mount a balustrade into this stuff so surely it has some potential...
