hello - our company has recently had problems w/ our eco form as to it being clear in the amount of information
& the responsibility of who or why the eco was created - we have columns for remarks & responsibility but anymore people
are sending out incomplete eco's - the remarks column instead of telling the whole story just simply states "as built"
or something to that effect - would anyone wish to share their forum or have any guidelines as to how their eco or ecn's are handled -
any info would be greatly appreciated - thank you

Here we often have about the same amount of detail you describe. We may have a bit more information but not full detail of what dimensions changed etc.

At former aero/defense place we listed out Is/Was for every change to the drawing. Though limited description on the why.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)

I can't share our form.
It has signature fields from eng, to QA, to mngmt, and areas for describing what the changes are.
Also, job number and stock/order dispositions are listed.
Marked-up current released drawings are attached to show what it is and what's changing.
Our ECN form is in PDF format with fields and digital signatures.

hello again & thank you so far for the replies - i completely understand not be able to share due to company concerns but your description helped very much -
thank you

I've seen this problem off and on over the years. People repurposing job tickets or adding scope or not filling them out properly. If it is one or two individulas usually a sit down with them can solve the problem; if it is widespread and part of your culture you need to change the culture - training program on how to do them right and why it matters coupled with hard stops on the releasees if they are not to the standard everyone is trained on.

duk748,

Is it the form, or the people?

If the forms are poorly filled out, send them back and get people to fill them out properly. Ultimately, your ECR system is a communication tool. The person generating it has to tell you what is wrong. Anyone adding information to it has to add it clearly and completely. It is no good for people to execute the Generate ECR Procedure.

I reject ECR's that don't contain specific's about what is changing, why it is changing, when it is changing and who is responsible. Anything less is just a waste to time and paper (electrons).

You need to be able to go back to that ECR in a couple of years and reconstruct what was done. 99.9% of the time you won't need to but when you do it is invaluable.
