Sirs:

In McGraw-Hill’s Machining & Metalworking Handbook I found the following formula for the clamping force by a round eccentric:

P = Q l . l/[tan(?+?1) +tan(?2)]r

Where:

• r: Distance from pivot point to contact point of the eccentric and the machined part surface
• ?: Rotation angle of the eccentric at clamping
• tan(?1): Friction coefficient at the camping point
• tan(?2): Friction coefficient at the pivot axle.
• l: Handle length.
• Q: Force applied to the handle.
• P: Clamping force

As I have some doubts that the formula is correctly typed (in the book), can someone confirm if it is right? or, better, inform where can I find its deduction?

Thank you,

Julio
