Hi all, I received my BS in Engineering Geology two years ago and worked for a year at a private Geotech/Geology firm. I'm returning this fall for my MS in Geotech and I have the option to choose between an Earthquake or Environmental track.

Especially in California, it seems like everyone specializes in Earthquake. I find Environmental interesting, but what career options are available to me down that road? Or would you recommend I go with my other-than #1 choice (Earthquake) for the sake of career fulfillment?

Thanks for any input.

So where's the option to learn about foundation design, embamkments, seepage, site improvement, soil mechanics, soil laboratory testing and the like? Earthquake (soil dynamics) is interesting and all, and so is environmental stuff, but a geotechnical engineer typically learns the other stuff somewhere. . .

earthquake eng is "new" thing (ie. seems to be accelerating more in to everyday applications) and has long way to evolve so there's lots of potential. geotech also great but money is not as good. i think geotech with abilities in earthquake eng discipline is the best of both worlds...but that's just my experience.
