I have a project where I am trying to load rate a floor system in a late 1960's to early 1970's building. No existing drawings are available. The floor system is comprised of metal deck with concrete topping on steel beams. The metal deck appears to be a form of composite deck that I am unaware of. Instead of achieving composite action through deformations in the metal deck, the metal deck is smooth but has steel wires (~3/16" dia.) welded to the top of the deck flutes at about 8" OC, perpendicular to the flutes. Has anyone seen this type of composite deck before and is there any design information available on it?

Does it resemble any other common shape of deck? I would assume that the wires provide full development of the concrete to the deck and use the tables from a similar manufacturer.

It basically looks like typical non-deformed metal deck. In looking at my site pictures more it appears that the wires must have been field welded as there are burn marks visible through the galvanizing (which is how we figured out there was something in there in the first place).

I would measure the thickness and shape (it looks like a "B" deck to me) and find a match in a current catalogue. Use the composite deck capacities from that deck with a hefty reduction for uncertainty.
