Hello All,

Currently I'm modelling an impact problem between two deformable bodies.
The deformable bodies are able to deform plastically and large displacements are found.

I want to have know how the initial impact energy distributes over the bodies. One body has an initial velocity that impact the other body which is in equilibrium.
During impact both bodies are going to displace and deform and energy is stored within the moving system. As the bodies have different stiffness’s the internal energy of the bodies is different.

There should be an energy balance as no damping is assumed. Thus the bodies can have the following energies:
1) kinetic energy
2) strain energy (elastic and plastic)
3) potential energy

However, the NASTRAN Solver doesn't give any energy output for SOL601.
I use the following types of elements; mass, beam, plate and solid elements.

The energy balance gives insight into the problem where the energy goes.

The kinetic and potential energy are relatively simple to calculate with the available information from displacement, velocity, and mass.
However, the strain energy is not given for this solution type.

Who can help me to determine the strain energy, differentiated for both bodies and elastic versus plastic?

Kind regards,
Christiaan
