DXF Import to Risa-3D Issue (v. 19.0.4)

Curious if anybody has had this issue (and hopefully found a solution)? I've imported DXF to Risa-3D multiple times and usually have this minor but annoying issue. Basically, most but not all of my linework from CAD gets imported into Risa. Several lines are missing and some end up in random locations. I have to remodel them in Risa. See attached image.

P.S. I emailed Risa support, so I'll update if they have a solution.

My guess is that it's one of a few things. You were right to contact support as they probably see this more often than I do (it's been nearly 5 years since I left RISA).

Guess #1: Lines vs Polylines. If I remember correctly, RISA-3D will not import polylines. So, if any of your lines are defined that way, that would explain the problem.

Guess #2: Layers. My belief is that when you're importing, you tell the program what layers to import and which ones to ignore. If you've got your lines on the wrong layers, that would cause problems like this.

I've seen the odd line from the "origin" to somewhere weird before. But, for the life of me, I cannot remember what caused it. Sorry!
 
Josh, thanks for the reply. I saw the same advice in Risa help, so I took care of any of that. Everything was on the 0 layer and no polylines.

Looks like I stumped Risa tech too! Here's their reply below:

He was getting the exact same issue as me. At least they'll look to address it!
 
Jeez that's a hell of a framing scheme.

Might want to try and verify that all of your Z-coordinates in the .dxf are set to zero. Sometimes that causes problems. Also try purge and overkill? Attach your .dxf and i'll look at it if you want.
 
dold, it's roof framing for an existing 54 ft diameter bin. Kind of looks like the death star without context...lol.

All members are on the same z plane, and yes I did purge everything unused. File attached--feel free but no need to spend too much time. It's not too big an inconvenience.

Interesting. I've never designed a deathstar.

But yea I tried some stuff and had the same results as yall did. No dice. I wonder if it's some sort of precision issue? Surely they'd have some sort of rounding routine.
 
If there is a rounding routine, it is likely based on the merge tolerance (or a similar tolerance in the newer program). I've definitely seen issues like that before. Especially if RISA performs a "model merge" without specifically telling the user.

This just screams out the need to have a "log" file that tells you what went right an wrong when performing the import. I know RISA has that when importing from STAAD. It should probably have that when importing from DXF as well.
