I have used FILE>AutoCAD DXF/DWG Export Wizard and get a dwg file that is 30mb in size.
If I translate through FILE>EXPORT>2D Exchange and then use the stand alone translator in the start menu, I get the same dwg file but it is 4mb.
HMMM why would that be?
Anyway, with either process, when I open the file in our SolidWORKS DWG editor, I have to scale the LineType (ltscale) to .005 to be able to see the hidden and phantom lines.
Is there a setting/variable for line scaling in the dwg converters?
Thank you.

I think you will find that the '2D Exchange' will 'flatten' the part file into a 2D only file, that is there will be no 3D objects, just projections of them onto a plane, which is fine if all you were looking for was a Drawing type result.

I understand that.
I am exporting the drawings from the drafting side.
My main concern is the "Line Type" scale. The line font in UG.
I have to scale it to .005 to see it after translation and wondering if there is a variable to fix this.
Thanks.

What version of NX?
NX 8.5 has a nice dialog that allows you to map NX linetypes to ACAD linetypes. There is also an option that supposedly allows you to use a custom scale; but when I check that option I can see no way to change the default given scale of 1.0.

I think you can also map NX linetypes to ACAD linetypes in previous versions, but it may require hand editing the .def file.

I am in 8.5
Thanks cowski, I will check it out.

OK cowski, I figured it out. Using the FILE>EXPORT>AutoCAD DXF/DWG export wizard.
Get this,
First, you have to check the 'Specify line type scale' box
Then you have to change the line font to something else and then change it back
Then if you click on the scale factor, you can change it.
What's with that? [sad]

Do not expect the SolidWorks DWG editor to be the "Absolute truth" since DXF/DWG formats are Autodesk's proprietary formats and by no way any formal standard. ( Such as Step and Iges)
The SW dwg editor will have to do a translation when importing, and the error might equally well sit there.
A better test environment is one of Autodesks viewers.

That said, there is still room for enhancement of the NX DXF/DWG translators...

Tomas
