Does anyone have an economical solution to remove pneumatic cylinder actuators to open and close dust collector gates in hazardous locations? Looking to eliminate the use of compressed air but cannot find a cost-effective solution for electrical actuation in hazardous locations. Needs to be Class 2 Div 1 classification.

Air cylinders are used because they are the economic solution. Classified electrical equipment is very expensive.

"Cost effective" electrical actuators and Class 2 Div 1 are mutually incompatible....

Use hydraulics? Then you can locate the power pack outside of the haz area?
Use N2 bottles?

I can point you at some Class 1 stuff that is more economical than others, but not Class 2 (dust) environment stuff. But yeah, pneumatics are a cheaper option for a fairly low-force actuator (given the already sunk cost of the air compressor).
