Any suggestions on welding ductile iron to stainless steel? My book says this is cast Iron ( 3 - 4% C) with some Magnesium or Cerium added. I'm going to try Ni rod, SMAW process, with no preheat. ( Preheat isn't an option at this stage.)

Weldtek;
Depending on your application, I would also consider brazing.

Thanks Metengr,
Unfortunately, due to it's configuration and the fact that it's full of water, we can't get this part hot enough to braze it. After discussing it with the owner, he's decided to replace the part.
