Dual channel memory will decrease solidworks performance about 3%
I tested it on Athlon XP2500,1GB ram with some components wich have 1000 features and above
average rebuld time with 2x512 MB dual channel not active:
315 s

Sounds a bit odd. I guess you run this on a Nforce2 chipset motherboard of some kind ?
It is imperative to stick the ram in the right pair of slots, check out the manual for the motherboard, or test for your self. I have an ABIT board myself, and had to experiment a little, as on combo gave single channel operation, the other gave me an unstable system, but the third workd all right with higher bandwith. It might be a good idea to test your bandwith with something like sisoft sandra before and after, and see when you get the most bandwith.

Best of luck !
