Hi,

Would anyone be able to outline the differences between automatic drop panels (through column definitions) and modelling them by manually drawing a slab area around a column?

There is a significant decrease in deflection when drawing the drop panels manually vs having them automatically generated by definition.

Is this to be expected? Is there a reason?

i expect that the differences between the 2 choice are in punching shear critical parameter calculation. Especially in 2nd parameter for drop panel.

There should be no difference. The two methods are acceptable alternatives for drawing the drop panels.

The difference in results may be due to the difference in material properties between (automatic the drop panel that has the same material properties of the column) and the (manual drop panel that has a unique material properties depending on the slab definition).
