I recently designed a concrete foundation for a 350,000# hammer. It was a used hammer, & the owner supplied information based on the previous installation. Soil tests were done, & the soil is stiff clay with bedrock at about 75' depth. The foundation extends about 21' below grade, and is about 17'X23' in plan. The hammer is now operating and the vibrations are excessive. The company that designed & installed the isolation system says they are as bad as any they have ever seen. We are considering excavating around the foundation and installing rigid eps between it & the granular backfill to a depth of 10' or so, and steel piles to bedrock have been suggested.
