Drafting Questions....

A have a couple of drafting questions, hopefully somebody can shed some light;

1. I have just discovered that if you create a hole dimension table, it is not linked, so if the part is updated the table is not (very dangerous). Is there a way around this?

2. When using the "Cumulated Dimension" tool, it only displays a line at the starting point, I would like it to display 0.00.
If you are drafting a large part, it is not always easy to spot the line. I know I can manually add text, but it seams there should be a option somewhere?

Thanks in advance

1a. Don't create the table?
1b. As the designer, be aware of this tidbit and act accordingly.

2. As CATIA Administrator, edit your standards.

1c. Manually go through the table and link the text to the attribute within the CATProduct/CATPart you desire. Keep in mind, this will not accomodate adding or removing a hole, only relocating.

I have no suggestions other than the ones mentioned, I just wanted to chime in and ask if there was a (good) reason that coordinate and hole dimension tables don't update?

If I was just learning CATIA, there is nothing that makes this obvious, and one might think, since other dimensions update, that the table would as well. I can understand not adding a new hole, but why wouldn't the table update for existing holes?

Other than the fact that it is mentioned in the documentation and none of the other added text, unless linked, update, . . . why would an instructor even consider mentioning such a trivial detail to a prospective student?

I'm just saying, the tables are under the "dimensioning" toolbar in the drafting workbench, not the "text note" toolbar or similar, and all the other dimension features in this toolbar will update with part changes, so you could make the logical argument that it would update. (Sorry if I didn't get the toolbar names right, I'm not at my workstation currently).

I guess, as you said, it comes down to that CATIA treats the tables as text rather than dimensions, but I could definitely see how users might think otherwise. I don't remember any mention this in the training manuals I went thru (that was R14 ro R15 though).
