Insert the master using INSERT > OBJECT > CREATE FROM FILE with the 'link' option checked.
Alternatively drag it in from the edgebar, but first set the placement option to 'link' by right clicking in the edgebar then 'insert symbol as'.
yes this works but when the linked background contains
variables to substituted i.e. %{Title|R1} they will
not work. To have them work as advertised you have to
include the background 'as geometry' and it must reside
inside the ..\templates folder
Just hope you are not doing this to link any informations (such as default tolerance block) from a master file. Don't forget once a drawing is released, everything that changes after that (including the cartridge, tolerances, notes, even proprietary informations) is subject to a drawing revision.
I think what don means is that any graphics or text that is unique to each drawing must be placed on the background sheet in the drawing, not as part of the linked object.
This applies whether it's property text or any other type of element.
If you right click in the edge bar you will see 'Insert Symbol As' with a list of options.
One of them is 'Graphics'.
What this will do is insert the graphics of the symbol (lines, text etc.) as graphics in the draft file, just as if you'd drawn them from scratch.
I would suggest that if you must link to another file you only do so for the outline of the drawing border, and any text that never changes. eg. the HEADINGS or LABELS of boxes such as 'Drawn By' or 'Date'.
first you can't insert multiple sheets at once. So for each sheet
you should have one file (..dft)
Due to the limitations as already outlined I would suggest to have
one template that for each sheetsize only holds the static parts
i.e. framing etc. This file can then be linked into the document.
Those parts that a background sheet is compiled of *and* that contains
dynamic items can only be inserted as 'Geometry' to have the variables
substituted and therefore can't be linked nor embedded. These items may
all be contained in one file or in seperate ones.
To change the insert options switch the EdgeBar to the folder
that do contain the above items. Do an RMB within the white space
of the EdgeBar and then select 'Insert symbol as'.
In case a 'Symbol' was not inserted as 'Geometry' it can be converted
later on: just select it --> RMB --> 'Convert to Geometry'. If it
was linked into the document then the link will be deleted
