Hi everybody,
I got a lab report about some cracks found on AISI 304 flanges after welding.
One of the paragraph concerns 'DPI crack-like indications', does anyboduy know what DPI means?

Thanks

Probably dye penetrant inspection (DPI). Dye Penetrant inspection is a nondestructive testing method.

Of course, now someone needs to confirm is they really are cracks or just surface indications.
If someone wants to grind on these make sure that they really grind them out and not just smear the metal over to cover the indications.
Is there another NDT method allowed? Is the shape one that you could X-ray?

Neither should your protection

Really beats me to know that crack can occur on a50% elongation and 35% Reduction in area material. Are they by any chance cold flow marks.

arunmrao;
My guess is weld defect(s) related to solidification type cracks.

Yes quite right. I missed reading the thread properly. Sorry!!I assumed it as a forged blank and then machined.
