Does Oil and Gas industry have a deficit of Senior Piping Designers? 6

Hello everyone. I'm very appologize for my English.

I'm a Senior Piping Designer (an Engineer in Russian company) - I hope I translated and understand it correctly. I feel very good and I'm always receive an offers from Russian employers at Oil & Gas industry. But I want to grow.

My answers will be very short:

[li]Is it possible to find a Russian team or Oil and Gas company based on US side. And to be hired? (I have English speaking, reading, writing skills. But for the fist time I'm afraid for my Technical English.[/li]
[li]Is it possible to work at Senior Piping Designer remotly (may be not for a first time, but later on)?[/li]
[li]Does the English level will be very hard part of doing a daily jobs?[/li]

If you give me any answers I'll be more than happy. But the main one is №1. If everything is okay with US citizena of Senior Piping Designer employee - I'll be not at good position of looking the job in US)

My experience is that the piping design work is always present through the whole Energy industry, not just O&G Field. And, the potential opportunity may also be found both inside and outside USA. In additional to the technical experience, the first you may want to focus on the technical skills with the engineering design tools. Secondly, to improve the soft skill, such as the communication and networking, and be flexible as possible.

Regarding using English in US, IMO, it's like the three meals a day. For the place full of the immigrant, you will get free practice day after day, and be used to it. After all, it could be valuable to be an expert in Russian here.

Try to get a job with a US oil and gas company in Russia, and after a few years, you could ask for a cross posting to the US, and work it from there. ExxonMobil operates an LNG facility in Prigorodnoye, Sakhalin Island for example. ExxonMobil and Chevron operate a large oil and gas production facility in Atyrau Kazakhstan. These people may find your language skills and cultural background useful for future ventures.

Having ten years of experience is good, if it is the right experience. It is also good to have the experience of starting the project in the Office and then follow it out to the Field. It sounds like you are on the right track.

This website is primarily designed to ask and get answers to the immediate technical question. I prefer to ask and answer questions about someones personal career issues on a one-on-one basis. and 2nd question. I understood that I need start to reading info about "Normative documents in USA". But for faster understading may you recommend a Russian book (or translated from English to Russian). I think the firsly understand rules on my main language and compare after that with the real practice will be a good plan for me (again, I have English skills, but not very deep at English Technical Language) and I may undesratnd some "normative documents" in different way, that author tried to tell me. A yeah I hope the Russian version was translated by professional author)

Yes that's experience with a real project at Siberia territory.

I was in Orenburg in 2014 at the gas refinery. I observed that Siberia is a very very large territory.

At the present time, the oil and gas industry in North America is in a slump because of the low prices for oil and gas. The demand for work is not great right now.

Will be hard, maybe impossible to find a Russian team or Oil and Gas company based on US side. You would have better luck in the rest of the world.

Don't think that it is possible unless you have some kind of rare expertise at some aspect of the work.

Don't think that would be a problem as the work is very similar. However, in Russia, the mechanical codes that are used are Russian codes and in a different format than our codes.

Not at this time.

If you want to try working in the United States, refer to georgeverghese (Chemical) comment above, or try a fiancé visa. It will be very hard for anyone including a Russian citizen to come over to the US to work. It was a lot of red tape for me to get approval to work in Orenburg.

I have worked with several Russian piping designers and engineers of related fields. Three of the best I ever had the pleasure of working with, on any project, on any level. There may be lots of piping designers in the USA but in my opinion there are too few really good ones. My suggestion is to keep trying and if you are good someone would be super happy to work with you.

Work initially in Exxonmobil or Chevron facility in Russia( ie move to Sakhalin or Atyrau or others) for a few years first. If they are happy with you, they may transfer you to the US upon request. From the US base, they may ask you to be part of an US engineering team for future projects in Russia or former USSR satellite state.
This approach may be safer than going to the US directly on your own steam. You should understand the oil / gas business in the US is well developed and there are probably thousands of oil/gas engineers there working in operating companies, licensor companies, engineering contractors, vendors and fabricators. Also remember that activity in the oil / gas business is cyclical in nature - thousands of people have been laid off in the past, both good and bad, in the last 50years or so. If you want job security, may be better to stay put in Russia.

Yeah! Deffinetly! I ready to work first time in the office and travel to oil and gas fields - it's must to teach stuff faster.


I hope it's similar. Right now I'm lead of 5 team people, as well as negotiating with our company clients about technical assignments. And when my head of department leaving to the vacation I do all work from his. I'm a bit more various than just a Senior Piping Designer. Heh as well I love travel around the world when I'm on vacation)

Yes. Yes and Yes! In Russia same situation everyone just wanting to get the job and chatting in FaceBook and receive a salary. I love my job, and that's why I want (and hope) move to US to team which one living and love their job. And become a really good ones in US. I deffinently know people which one just finished a unievrtity and working for about 5 years sitting in the office - and the don't know anything about what is going on oussite the AutoCad. I'm a bit different. My CEO every year sent me to the trip to Protect our Projects in front of customer, becouse not every one can do that job better than me)

Like I said before I have been ready to do some test works still being in RU, before move to US.

Move to Sakhalin or Atyrau. Hm, right now I'm living in the Europe part of Russia (before I left in Siberia), for me the Texas sun and industry is more closer, than any Russian territory)
