Does anyone has an experience of using sealing compounds to arrest minor leakages from flanges in high pressure process plants?
how much reliable these compounds are?

This is not a practice which is formally accepted..the gasket should seal the flange. If I had to do it I would try Silverseal, its a thick goopy compound with fibres in it and yes its silver, used in turbine assembly and such goes very tough when heated. needs to be kept cold when in storage or it goes very tough in the can before you get around to using it

I'd contract out a leak sealing contractor for flange leaks and have them manufactured / machined to fit clamp w/ sealing compound installed or purchase from PLIBCO (plidco.com), worth the money in the long haul...but could also use items such as:

Belzona 1111 Supermetal - good for fixing machine / component leaks, exchanger shell / tube...

Another cheap try for lower pressure applications is Indumar (Indumar.com) Stop-it leak repair tape. Good for a short term fix.
