Does anyone ever use a floating brass insert for plastics?

I am looking for a brass insert which can be floating in the plastics to compensate the center misalignment with the screw. Is it existing from some catalog?

Thanks.

molded in, press fit, or ultrasonic insertion?

We don't have a specific desire for the insertion method for the floating insert if there is one.
Right now, inserts are molded-in.

Where have you checked? PEM makes a floating insert for sheet metal applications but I'm not aware that they have a similar product for plastics. They do have standard inserts for plastics, however. For the right volume (or price) they might be able to help you out.

I typically look to Dodge when specifying a threaded insert into plastic. Their products are pretty standard and readily available from distributors or suppliers of equivalent inserts.

Might be easier to make the screw a floating/captive type.

I won't say it doesn't exist, but I've never seen such a thing.

I can't imagine how you would keep the plastic from filling the gap between the fixed piece and the floating piece, so you couldn't mold one in.

Maybe press fit or ultrasonic, etc.

OR, for a design challenge, you could put a regular insert into a boss that's laterally flexible enough to accommodate some misalignment.

Thanks for everyone's help and info. I just found one item from PEM. It is a custom design part shown in their SI catalog. It is called molded-in floating inserts. It can take up to 0.8mm misaligment like their floating nut for sheet metal.

Just checked with PEM. They mentioned that floating inserts can not be manufactured. Need to find something else.
