Hello,
I am working with a utility that is doing a 2400V delta to 4160V grounded wye conversion. One item that we are looking at is wildlife protection, mainly from birds. This is an island and there are no squirrels. It is an island so there is salt water so that may be consideration in material selection as well as how they are fastened as wind is an issue.

So I am curious to find out what others are using for wildlife protection on pole mounted transformer bushings.

Thanks in advance.

Beware of delta/delta transformer banks. They will not perform well as wye/delta banks. One unintended consequence; a primary line to ground fault may cause primary fuse blowing on downstream wye/delta banks.
This may be avoided by floating the transformer bank wye point, and replacing backfeed issues with overvoltage switching transients.
A compromise is to use four fused cutouts to feed wye/delta banks.
A fuse is inserted into the neutral cutout. Then fuses are installed in the three phase cutouts. This avoids switching transients.
Then the neutral fuse is removed and taken away in the service truck. This avoids backfeeds.

Specifying Silicone rubber based polymer bushings helps in salty / polluted environment.
With regard to protection against bird perching etc. there are many options available in the market including sleeving the bushing ends. You can google to find out.

I think I may have mis-stated my question. I was looking feedback on people's experience with particular guards. For example: tried xyz's guard on pole mounted transformers and they blew off on wind speeds greater than 40mph. Or ABC brand looked great but the linemen hated installing them. That sort of thing.

The particular configurations of the txf banks have been addressed during engineering and will be ungrnd wye to delta configurations but that was not the question.

I have done Google search to identify brands of guards but that does not tell me about people's experience with particular guards.

I like these

BCAC-IC. It’s a good guard that covers well, the rain washes salt and pollutants away, and you can IR inspect through them.
Almost impossible to tear off after they are installed

We use them on transformers, substation bushings, regulator bushings, they come in several sizes, they are not one size fits all which is a good thing.
For a distribution XF the BCAC-IC (G for grey) 5D/6 would be my choice. Much better than the solid ones wasps build in.
