I have a convential 8 pipe distribution septic field on a steeply sloped property. I am looking for the slope requirement to the adjoining property which is 10 feet lower than my property. The setback distance is 30 feet, which makes it a slope of 3H to 1V. Is that enough or should it be closer to 5H to 1V to prevent seepage on to the lower property??

Contact your local authority to find out what they require. In the county I worked in, they would not accept a septic field if the area had been disturbed by grading (and in some cases, disturbed by a heavy vehicle driving across it!) They did not have a problem with steep slopes, but any natural channels or ditches required a 10' vertical offset to the septic field.
