Distance below ceilings for concealed space protection

Appreciate the help on the following.

per NFPA 13 (not NFPA 13R), do the rules about maximum distances below ceilings for standard spray sprinklers, either for obstructed or non-obstructed construction, apply the same way when talking about protection inside concealed spaces (i.e. above false ceilings)?

I would say yes

But. Follow the listing/ data sheet for the specific sprinkler
 
There is very specific criteria for concealed combustible spaces. Be sure to follow all of that and you are good. But yes, generally the 1-12" down for unobstructed or 1-6" below the beam to a max of 22" below the deck. However, if specially listed sprinklers are required, you will need to follow that criteria specified in the data sheets.
