Hi guys,
I need your thoughts on something. I have replaced the pinned supports on columns & cores with spring areas stiffness beneath the raft foundation.
During the analysis of the model with pinned supports, I have applied property modifiers to slabs & columns in order to make sure that the whole lateral load (wind,NHL) will be resisted from the cores only. The displacements at response plots due to wind was ok and within the limits (70mm actual, 125mm limit) for a 20 storey RC frame residential block.
When I run the analysis with the spring areas stiffness instead of pinned supports, I kept the property modifiers as it was before and the displacements due to wind are now 8 times higher than before! Have you experience something like that before? Do I miss something?
The check for the stability model that I am doing is an H/500 at the displacements due to wind loads.
