We're designing a pressure vessel with large (1700mm/66in) stub end nozzles. Normally for the stub nozzle we hydro with a flat plate since our pressures are usually very low (1bar/15psi). For the job I'm working on we have 3.6bar (54psi) and a flat plate won't cut it. Does anyone know if you can use a dished only cover for the hydrotest? This will then get cut off the vessel and the nozzle will be beveled.

You could I suppose, but an elliptical or torispherical head might be a better choice, as you could avoid a corner joint at the nozzle. That said, a DO head would work, given proper design of the weld detail.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
