I have a direct shear apparatus for testing square sample 60×60 mm. The vertical load is applied through the lever in ratio 1:10. That mean, if we use 1 kg weight the vertical load on the cell will be 10 kg. My question: Is the vertical stress 27.77 kPa i.e. 10/36 = 0.2777 kg/cm2

Pretty close. I calculate 0.2778 kg/cm2 = 27.24 kPa. In practice, round off to 0.28 and 27, respectively, or 0.3 and 30. Nobody will believe more than two digits of precision. [shadeshappy]
