Direct Contact Heater Design

I am reviewing various methods for design of direct contact heaters, used to heat incoming slurry (40% solids) with flash steam in an autoclave system.

James Fair has published much in this area but it mainly relates to hydrocarbon processing.

Is anyone aware of papers or real examples published on direct contact slurry heating?
