DIN 931 vs. DIN 933

In trying to minimize our fastener inventory is it possible , without knowing any particular useage, to eliminate a DIN 931 (partial thread) and replace it with
a DIN 933 (fully threaded) in all instances.

I can't think of a reason why you couldn't replace a DIN 931 fastener with an equivalent length DIN 933 fastener.

I have had applications where I was required to use fasteners with unthreaded shanks. Typically, I was required to use specific fasteners with unthreaded shanks such as AN series bolts, and there were all sorts of requirements about the joint design. DIN931 would not have done.

Is anyone insisting that you use DIN931?

No real insistance on the 931 vs. 933 only thing is that at around 2" (50mm) the 931 seems to be used more. Do you believe with a longer bolt an uthreaded section will "stretch" better w/o the chance of failure?

I have no idea of how your bolted joints work. If your nuts come loose, the unthreaded shanks require more force to shear. This matters on some applications.
