Hi,
what are the advantages of a digitizer when using autocad?
(or not)
Thanks

Digitizer were popular for tracing small sketches ... this was relative to the tablet itself.
They were also popular for having icons on the tablet to special LISP routines.

But the popularity phased out as CAD operators got smarter. The need to trace hand sketches went away. CAD operators learned to re-draw sketches via "coordiante inputting".

Also Tablets were troublesome to service with drivers and LISP routines.

Hence ... CAD users now edit PGPs and develop toolbars and menus. All these were available back then but no one knew much about computers.

At least this is how I remember the "AGE OF DIGITIZERS".
Someone might jump in and tell a diferent story.
Whatever ....

Hope this helps.

I do not know that I would say that CAD operators got smarter, but when the Windows version of AutoCAD came around, you could have your "digitizer icons" on screen instead of on digitizer. The ability to "not take your eyes off the screen" is seen as a productivity enhancer and I think for the most part, that is true. Digitizers work pretty well but they idea of not purchasing and supporting another piece of equipment is another plus. Just a few thoughts.
