Hi,

I need to conduct some bending tests on concrete beam specimens, and I will use DIC to analyze the strains/poissons ratio.

Before testing, I will paint the beam red. Can black or white be used to create a contrasting speckle pattern? Can colors other than black or white be used to create speckle patterns? Is there an influence between the speckled colour used and the results of strain analysis in DIC in terms of accuracy?

I struggle to get information regarding using color for speckle patterns with base coats other than black and white.

Thanks!

You should ask the DIC camera/software supplier this question.

I suppose one could use contrast enhancing filters or use retro-reflective paint and a nearly co-axial light source.
