Diffusion of metals

Has sombody any idea if there has already been tried difussion of metals into silica-based glasses? And if it has worked out? Any helpful internet-sites and publications are welcome.

Yes, an old methode to make photocells was using a vacuum
tube with filament; placing it in a molten Na,K,St, etc. salt bath and using the thermal emission current electrolyse
the metal into the tube.
