Hey all -

Has anybody seen/used different grade steel for different bridge components on the same bridge? Our bridge is 136 ft two track ballasted deck on steel plate girders. The girders are Grade 50. Arema requires that the diaphragm connections have half the capacity of the diaphragms. If I use GR 50 for diaphragms (built-up I sections), I need two rows of bolts for the diaphragm to stiffener conenctions. We were contemplating using GR 50 for the girders and stiffeners, and GR 36 for the diaphragm plates. This would reduce the bolts to a single row. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
